Ian McShane has been cast as Hellboy’s adoptive father Professor Trevor Bruttenholm in Lionsgate and Millennium’s “Hellboy” reboot.

THR dropped the news that Golden Globe-winner Ian McShane has signed on to Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen as Professor Broom, whose full name in the comics is Professor Trevor Bruttenholm. McShane inherits the role from the late John Hurt, who had prominent role in Guillermo del Toro's first Hellboy movie and cameoed in the sequel. In addition, the report states that the new film will find Harbour’s Hellboy facing off against a medieval sorceress who seeks to destroy humankind. While there is no word yet on who may be playing the lead female antagonist, it has been confirmed that filming will begin in September in the UK and Bulgaria.

McShane currently stars on Starz’s “American Gods,” which has earned him some of his best reviews of his career since toplining the HBO series “Deadwood.” He also recently reprised his role in “John Wick 2” opposite Keanu Reeves. Ian McShane's notable credits over the years include Lovejoy, Deadwood, Kung Fu Panda, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Hercules and Grimsby, but to John Wick fans, he's instantly recognizable as Winston, the owner and manager of the Continental Hotel in New York.

Rise Of The Blood Queen features new people behind and in front of the camera, with Neil Marshall directing, Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and character creator Mike Mignola on script duty. Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin are producing along with Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment.

Much to the initial chagrin of del Toro fans everywhere, it was originally announced that the reboot will star David Harbour, the Stranger Things breakout star, in the Hellboy role instead of Perlman. And with Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen reportedly set to begin filming later this Fall, no doubt McShane's addition is just the first of many casting announcements that will come in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned and we will keep you updated!
