Why EDM will dilute and die out to be like modern Hip-Hop
When I was first 'introduced' to EDM (Electronic Dance Music) in 1999, I had such high hopes for the genre. I was sure that it could only grow and it couldn't possibly turn out to be like Hip Hop back in the 90's. Of course, I had no respect for Hip Hop back then; but I take back what I believed. Modern Hip Hop is a lot worse than it was before and Electronica will turn out to be the same.
I first noticed Pop artists using House beats in 2009. Back then I was happy to hear the genre growing into something more...until I started hearing music by Flo Rida, Rihanna and all the other mainstream pop artists who get their songs played on the radio 15 times a day for 3 months. As a music producer, I always look up to other producers who have 'made it' and try to implement techniques used by them and make my songs my own.
Bottom line is: modern Pop music is poorly produced. I constantly hear the same two notes being played on a 130 BPM beat with absolutely nothing new added. I thought it'd get better. I hoped for it to get better. But then that Rihanna song came out...what was it? "We fell in love in a hopeless place," where she repeats the same lyrics throughout the whole song with 4 notes being played. That made me just stop listening to the radio.
Where has all the good musicians gone off to? I'm sure there are AMAZING producers out there, I've heard them; but they aren't getting plays on the radio because they're too 'old'. None of the modern musicians on the radio are above the age of 30 (with the exception of a few). I think if the radios continue playing the same songs every day for months, the public will grow tired of listening to house-type beats and will look for something else that'll sound different.
Bottom line is - if you're an electronic dance music producer; do a good job and put 100% into each song. Take months to finish a single song, make sure it's perfect because people like me will whine and complain like little children until it gets better.
