Dogs hate heavy metal. According to a scientific study by Colorado State University, dogs much prefer the soothing sounds of classical music a la Beethoven and Mozart over the thrashy, corrosive sounds of Slayer or Metallica.
The psychologist behind the study, Lori Kogan, made this finding when studying the behavioral effects of different genres of music on dogs at animal shelters. Metal Injection writes that Kogan would play different genres of music for 45 minutes and record her behavioral observations of the dogs every five minutes.
The aim of the study was to understand how dogs behave in different environments so in the future it would be easier to provide a more positive atmosphere for dogs at animal shelters or in other stressful environments.
We think that while most dogs might not like heavy metal, it’s hard to refute that this particular dog loves some good thrashing (see video below):
