What is HypedSound?
A social music platform integrating entertainment for listeners with promotional, informational, and collaborative tools for artists.
What are the main goals of HypedSound?
1. Promote up-and-coming artists through listener feedback and social networking.
2. Provide an open forum for amateurs, professionals, and music enthusiasts.
3. Promote the collaborative efforts of artists with their music.
4. Provide a means to find bandmates through virtual auditions and classified ads.
5. Provide informational services for artists to reference based on their particular needs and goals.
6. Create a source of entertainment for both the artists and the listeners.
7. Provide a platform for artists to distribute their music via social networking sites.

What is the maximum file size for audio and video?
The max mp3 size is 40MB and the max size for videos is 50MB. We will look to raise these limits in the future. Bandwidth isn't THAT cheap :) .
How does the voting system work on HypedSound?
HypedSound started off with a simple up-down voting system that artists and listeners could use to help determine the best songs on the site as well as give feedback to the creator. In the spirit of interactivity, the main goal of HypedSound, we decided to eliminate the up-down voting system. We now only allow up-voting via our "Hype It" button.
How do you make it onto the Popular Songs list on the homepage?
Our previous system of voting put the top vote-getters into the Top Songs, which translated into voting abuse (i.e. upping yourself while down-voting others). To prevent anyone from gaming the system, we have changed Top Songs to Popular Songs. We will be determining Popular Songs based on the number up-votes (via our new Hype It button), level of interactivity and participation on HypedSound, as well as some consideration for a song's recency. This means that a song with a lot of Hype can get to the front page, but so can a relatively new song that sparks attention from the other artists and listeners on the site.
What is a “Virtual Audition”?
A “virtual audition” is essentially a classified ad with audio and/or video to support the ad. Unlike other classifieds ads sections, HypedSound wants to bring you the comfort of “auditioning” for a band to your own home. This allows you and other users to browse the classified ads without spending the time to meet someone in person who might not play at the same level as you or fit the needs of your band. With virtual auditions, you can get a better idea of how to form your band without lugging your equipment to a jam session before you even hear a person play their instrument.
Why not just post a video on Youtube?
Youtube is a great social networking tool because of its massive audience. But with an endless sea of videos, posting yourself playing music on Youtube will not necessarily find you other musicians looking for a bandmember in your area or that meet your specifications. HypedSound facilitates the band search in a friendlier and slightly less anonymous way than conventional classified ads in newspapers, guitar stores, or online (plus we provide this service for free!).
What is the Collaborate section?
HypedSound’s Collaborate section is for online music collaboration between artists anywhere in the world. Artists can work together on music tracks publicly or privately. Public projects are open to any HypedSound member who wants to work with people on their tracks. For a small fee, artists can work on private projects in a secure setting over the Internet. Private projects allow artists to take advantage of our platform while still maintaining the secure, private environment of a studio session.
Can I use the Collaborate section to hire musicians to finish a music job for me?
Unlike conventional online music collaboration programs, our contest section provides a valuable source of collaboration for both artists and listeners. People who need music work done for them can offer cash prizes to any musicians who want to contribute their input on a certain musical task.
Examples:
Scenario 1-
Paul wants to give his wife Sandra an original song for Valentine’s Day. He wrote a poem for her, but has no musical talent. He offers $50 on HypedSound for artists to write him a song. Once he listens to all the entries, he pays the winner and then is able to download the song. Marital bliss survives with a little help from HypedSound.
Scenario 2-
A death metal, hip-hop crossover band named Beatbox Mutilator needs a sound engineer to mix their latest track. They recorded it but want some fresh ears to finish the job. They come to HypedSound to see who can do the best job.
What is HypedSound’s Encyclopedia?
The Encyclopedia is essentially an evolving directory of music information. Categories in the Encyclopedia include news and blog sites for a variety of music genres, music schools, record labels, music stores, recording studios, and music venues. The Encyclopedia is open for the public to add information, making it a cross between Wikipedia and a phone book (but for music information!). If you think our Encyclopedia warrants a new category, let us know (jonathan@hypedsound.com).
What is a Featured Artist?
Featured Artist spots come in three locations on the site: a homepage profile spotlight for the artist, a showcase of the artist’s music on the homepage music player, or a featured music placement in the Free music shop section of the website. Email us for more information (featured@hypedsound.com).
